The Shanghai Studies Society aims to create an international hub for the study of Shanghai. It brings together advanced scholarly research and encourages innovative and multi-disciplinary approaches. Members of the Shanghai Studies Society are engaged in original research on urbanization, migration, Shanghai history and historiography, global capital and grassroots entrepreneurship, cinema, literature, visual arts, performative and ritual practices. Our scholarly work includes workshops, conferences and publications. In order to enhance its public presence and make visible the work of its academic community, programming also includes exhibitions, public lectures, film screenings, and guided urban walks.
